The Julius Meinl Barista Cup Grand Finale 2026 brought together 15 national Barista Champions from around the world for an unforgettable celebration of coffee craftsmanship in Vienna. On September 4th, MuseumsQuartier became the stage for exceptional talent, creativity and passion as our champions competed live in the Espresso, Cappuccino and Signature Drink categories before an international panel of judges and thousands of visitors.
From inspiring coffee experiences and live tastings to unforgettable competition moments, the Grand Finale celebrated the people behind every exceptional cup of coffee. Explore the highlights below and relive the moments that made this year's Barista Cup so special.

Stefan Kot - Espresso Winner
Representing Poland, Stefan Kot claimed the Espresso title.
In this category, judges evaluated the perfect extraction of Julius Meinl's Gloriette Gold, assessing the espresso's crema, flavour profile, balance, complexity and clarity. Stefan's outstanding performance demonstrated the precision and attention to detail behind every exceptional espresso.
Mario Benetseder - Cappuccino Winner
With an outstanding cappuccino, Mario Benetseder from Austria claimed victory in the Cappuccino category.
Here, judges looked beyond beautiful latte art, evaluating the harmony between espresso and milk, the quality of the milk preparation and the overall taste experience. Mario impressed with a performance that combined technical excellence with exceptional flavour.
Luka Darispanashvili - Signature Drink Winner
Representing Georgia, Luka Darispanashvili impressed the judges with his signature creation, CHIAROSCURO, earning him first place in the Signature Drink category.
This challenge celebrates innovation, inviting baristas to craft an original coffee- or tea-based beverage. The judges assessed the drink's creativity, presentation and how well its flavours come together in one balanced experience.
Elizaveta Rîmscaia - Overall Winner
Exceptional performances across all three competition categories crowned Elizaveta Rîmscaia from Moldova as the Overall Winner 2026.
Achieving the highest combined score in Espresso, Cappuccino and Signature Drink, she demonstrated remarkable consistency, technical skill and creativity throughout the competition.

Over 20 years of experience in specialty coffee, quality assurance and education. A Licensed Q Grader and World Barista Championship Sensory Judge, he is Director of Coffee Education at Cherry Coffee Training, helping businesses improve coffee quality and develop high-performing teams.
JUNIOR VARGAS
HEAD JUDGE
With over 15 years in specialty coffee, Junior is an Authorised SCA Trainer (AST), Q Grader and Q Instructor. A five-time Austrian Barista Champion and 2022 World Espresso Champion, I focus on education, quality and sustainability.
ALI VOGEL
SENSORY JUDGE
Ali Vogel is CEO of Vogel Kaffee Roastery, recognised among Vienna's top specialty coffee shops. With 20 years in hospitality and 10 years in specialty coffee, he is the 2024 Austrian Latte Art Champion and Austrian Latte Art Coach for 2025/26.

Raul Juan Sorita has over 12 years of international experience across the coffee value chain. A Food Engineer, Licensed Q Arabica Grader and Q Instructor, he is Senior Specialist in Process Optimisation and Global Coffee Expert at Julius Meinl.

SENSORY JUDGE
Over 18 years of experience across the coffee value chain. As Brand Ambassador for Julius Meinl Poland and an Authorised SCA Trainer (AST), Marcin leads coffee training and quality initiatives. A finalist in several national coffee championships, he is passionate about coffee education and excellence.

Pradip has over 15 years of experience in the coffee industry. As Head of Quality and Training for Julius Meinl UAE & MEA, he leads quality and training across the region. A certified coffee trainer, licensed Q Grader and coffee competition judge, he is passionate about coffee excellence.

Ben Helt has over 20 years of experience in specialty coffee. As Technical Training Director at BWT water+more and an SCA Q Instructor, he helps coffee professionals optimise water for better coffee quality.

Tamara is an Austrian coffee professional with over 15 years of experience in specialty coffee. A coffee roaster, latte art trainer and four-time Austrian Latte Art Champion, she is passionate about coffee quality, craftsmanship and education.

BEYOND THE COMPETITION
Coffee Experiences for Everyone
The Grand Finale was about more than the competition. Throughout the day, visitors were invited to explore the world of coffee through a variety of interactive experiences. Guests enjoyed complimentary coffee tastings, discovered new flavours to take home, and put their senses to the test at our aroma station by identifying different coffee aromas.
They could also expand their coffee knowledge, capture memories in our photo booth and try their luck at the Wheel of Fortune. Whether a passionate coffee enthusiast or simply curious to learn more, there was something to discover for everyone.
Taking the Barista Cup Across Vienna
In the days leading up to the Grand Finale, our giant Julius Meinl coffee cup appeared at two of Vienna's most iconic landmarks – the Gloriette and the Prater Giant Ferris Wheel.
Inside, visitors discovered a fully equipped coffee bar where our baristas served complimentary coffee, inviting locals and tourists alike to experience the Barista Cup before the competition began.
THE PRIZE: A COFFEE ORIGIN TRIP TO INDIA
The four winners of the Julius Meinl Barista Cup, the overall champion and the winners of the Espresso, Cappuccino and Signature Drink categories, each won an exclusive coffee origin trip to India.
Travelling through Kerala and Karnataka, they will meet the farmers and suppliers behind Julius Meinl coffee, explore Robusta plantations and experience coffee processing first-hand. They will also discover the Julius Meinl Generations Programme, developed in collaboration with Fairtrade to support farming communities and more resilient livelihoods.
In Ooty, the winners will visit a Julius Meinl tea supplier partnered with Fairtrade to learn about tea cultivation and processing.
Along the way, they will experience India’s culture, communities and landscapes, returning home with new knowledge, inspiration and a deeper understanding of origin.
